My academic research presentation at Geidai, Tokyo University of the Arts. Thanks to all who supported the Zaifu tea ceremony project.
My research notes will be published on the GA journal, and this marks the completion of the research student program. I was relieved to see that the words I had worked so hard on seemed to have reached you all.
The uniqueness of my research is that the practitioners themselves saw the tea ceremony as an art project, and academically examined it.
Three years ago, I brought the traditional tea ceremony to a sacred place for contemporary art. It was clearly an away-from-home experience, but slowly and gradually, people began to recognize our presence, and before we knew it, the Zaifu Tea Ceremony had become a popular event in the community.
Tea, my favorite plaything, is chic and mischievous, with its margins and depth. I would like to continue to practice and verify it, and contribute so that the tea ceremony as the profound cultural capital of Japan will be widely utilized in society. Thank you to everyone who played along with me at the Zaifu.
